Extreme temperatures can increase smog pollution. Some areas, like the Cascade Foothills, experienced unhealthy air quality, according to the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.
Library patrons sit outside of the Columbia City branch, which doesn’t have air conditioning but a system that helps prevent the building from overheating.
